More than 22 years.
What is your primary product or service?
Fine yarn for knitting and crocheting. We also offer supplies, fashion patterns, books, buttons and equipment for knitters and crocheters.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Owner: I have a long-time retail industry background, having been involved with many national and international chains of stores and the accompanying online businesses. It was natural to transition to a one-off boutique physical store and companion full onllne store, particularly as I have been a knitter nearly my entire life. I love fiber, fashion and creativity and believe in the joy that fiber hobbies foster.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We have been recognized by Vogue Knitting Int'l. magazine as "the most inspirational yarn store in the nation." Our selection features natural fiber yarns from worldwide sources that include hard-to-find luxury fibers like Vicuna, Qiviut, Camel, Buffalo, Alpaca, Cashmere, Silk, Linen, Wool, Bamboo, Rayon and Cotton and many blends of these. Our focus is on hand-knitted fashion and we offer patterns and projects created by some of the world's best designers or designed exclusively by us. However, we also focus on easy-to-accomplish projects for beginners.
You will also often see unusual front window displays of knitted life-size sculpture created by the owner...whole hand-knitted gardens, picnics of all knitted plates of food, or knitted fallscapes of pumpkins and haystacks which make the store a destination for more than just knitters.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Our physical two-story retail store is located in the heart of the New England village of Lenox, MA with the Knitting Loft, a gathering spot to knit and relax on the second floor. Our other venue serves the world online at colorfulstitches.com and is a full online store where you can shop 24/7 and have us ship worldwide. We accept phone and mail orders as well.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Colorful Stitches is located in a large white building at 48 Main Street in the village of Lenox, MA in the suite at the rear of the building. Our separate driveway is directly across Main Street from Lenox's Lilac Park, and accesses our front door, porch and private parking lot. Lenox is a small community and all of the downtown stores and restaurants are easily accessed by walking, and we can be reached from many of the other streets in town via meandering sidewalks.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept VISA, MasterCard and Discover Card as well as MA checks and cash. We offer the sale and redemption of Colorful Stitches Gift Cards, also.
Which areas do you service?
Colorful Stitches services knitters, crocheters and other fiber artists worldwide with fine yarn and supplies. While located in Western MA's cultural Berkshires, our customers make this a destination.

Bonnie J. Burton is the sole owner of Colorful Yarns, LLC, dba Colorful Stitches.

Year-round except for July and August:
Weekdays 11:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Closed Tuesdays
Saturdays 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Sundays 12:00PM - 4:00 PM
In July and August, we are open 7 days a week, including Tuesdays.

We appreciate the quote provided in print by Vogue Knitting Int'l magazine when we were cited as "the most inspirational yarn store in the nation." We want simply to create happy knitters, and when someone completes their hand-crafted project successfully and proudly, we cannot be more pleased.
